Sorry, I ready gave my stock to another nut!Squirrel Problem:?
Have you tried the pet or wildlife section? You may find more answers there.
You are a hot mess!
ha ha ha
lmao
i guess you got a squirrel problem!!!
Is it Squirrel hunting season already???
I'm trying to conceive what you are thinking..........oh wait you're nuts!
you want a lady with nuts? Good luck with that request....
2pts thanks!

Squirrel Problem?

This is for a friend again:

She has a squirrel living in her attic and she would love to catch him and move him somewhere else. How far would she have to take him so he does not find his way back?Squirrel Problem?
on the free way lol but hear this there was a squirrel in my moms office and it wouldnt leave and they called an exterminator and found it in the walls lolSquirrel Problem?
2.678 miles!
Just make some of your own '; squirrel traps'; like it steps on the lever bucket tips idk make it cool.

oh maybe 1,000 miles
Ummm dont rightly know.. never caught a squirrel..and sure havent had one in my attic.. nothing but mice in mine..I would suggest throwing a hungry cat up there for his main course of squirrel..LOL
10 miles.

Then again, you could save the gas and buy a blow-gun.
Probably several miles away, squirrels don't typically return like mice do, if you take them somewhere else they will generally make a new life for themselves. Also there brains are so small it probably wouldn't remember the location anyway.

have a few squirrels (i hope there squirrels)between my roof and house. when we installed are AC we forgot to cover up a hole outside. . I have found where thay come in, but I can not fix it until I get them out!!! what can i use to make sure the squirrels dont come back and then cover the holeSquirrel problem?
Moth balls or even better champhor flakes put inside hole they do not like smellSquirrel problem?
Good luck I lost an entire house to squirrels. If you find out what the answer is will you email me an let me know.
    one of two ways

1 call animal control and have them set traps or

2 set out poison and clean the little boogers out when they are gone

but i would go for the option 1 first

    Squirrel problems..?

My house has squirrels running around up in the attic...

we've had a pest control guy come last year.. but they just came back this year..

maybe its because its cold and theirs acorns that fall on our house..

any ideas to get rid of them?Squirrel problems..?
Good luck...when they are out, lure them out with a nut trail (I know that sounds silly, but it will work), then fill up the whole where they are coming in, if its the chimney, get a cover, we used to get birds in the house, til my husband put a cover on it, they would be flying around in there, scaring the daylights out of my kids and my grandmother, and I'd have to come home from work to chase them out...what a nightmare (pain in the a**)!Squirrel problems..?
I've seen these screen things on TV that you can put over the holes where they go in and out and it keeps them from going in but they can go out. You could find some of those %26amp; when you don't hear the ';little darlins'; up there anymore seal up the holes.
I'm a certified home inspector. Never seal up any venting in your house. If your attic is not properly ventilated moisture will build up, mold will spread like crazy, and your wood will start to rot. I've seen it before, to the point that the entire roof, sheathing, insulation needs to be replaced, and everything needs to be professionally sprayed and scrubbed to remove mold and the spores.

It's better to put a screen over any holes or vents. Be aware that if you block the squirrels way in than you block their way out. So if any squirrels are still inside they will eventually die and leave an awful stench.

Your vents should already have a screen but sometimes they fall off or someone takes them off not understanding their purpose.

Vents are usually located under your eves and on top of your roof.

If you're an animal lover you could also create a backyard habitat that allows for squirrel nests, places for them to raise their young, store food, etc... Perhaps they will be happier out of your attic.
    trap them then kill them
Yep you got the answer. Get some cats.
    Shoot the little B..tards!

Nah... that would be cruelty to animals, Get someone else to do it for ya.
Block up all the holes around the roof .
Destroy your home but save the foundation. Rebuild this time go far above the trees and no ledges for the squirrels to grab onto . It is also prudent to put machine gun turrets on all four corners of your new home as to allow for challenging devil squirrels .
Try looking for holes around the attic, if there are, try sealing them up. As for the acorns, if the problem still continues, try cutting the tree down maybe?
You need to find out where they are getting in.

You could also try those sonic sound devices that are supposed to get rid of moles.

Failing that, my father in law shoots them....
Put a few cats up there. Sit back, listen and have a good laugh!
Call a different pest control guy than you called last year. You'll have to seal up enterences by putting up screens and distract them with bird houses full of seed.
Let a cat sniff around in the attic and the squirrels won't come back. There are pest repellants you can buy to deter them from coming back too - no need to kill them off.
Yeah, buy a cat, throw him in your attic, and never feed him....lol, j/k.....all you can do is block all entry ways...Use chicken wire.
    buy a cat
Squirrels come back each winter to their home. The pest control guys didnt catch all of the Squirrels last year so the remaining ones are back this winter. It may not have been the pest control companies fault because sometimes the Squirrels move out before they have a chance to catch them.

You cant just close the holes because the Squirrels will just chew new holes. ( They think it is their home to ). You have to find all of the holes and trap each Squirrel and euthanize them or take them 5 miles away and release them. or hire someone to do that. mothball dont work only trapping

    Squirrel problem?

ive tried repellents and traps but they all fail. so is it ok to shoot them with a pellet or bb gun in the state of texas?Squirrel problem?
Get a Jack Russel they will chase anything!!Squirrel problem?
dude i am a big hunter and yes if it is on your own land aka ur house /backyard you can shoot em off

Why are you scared of squirrels? Leave them alone.

    I have a squirrel problem?

i have a squirrel in my attic that contentiously comes back every few days... the squirrel is destructive and i don't know where it's entering from... i was wondering if there is any effective poison or deterrent that people may know of.. thanks!!!I have a squirrel problem?
You need to find the entry hole and seal it when it is outside. If you can get into the attic, set a trap or a Have-A-Heart trap. If you use poison be prepared for an awful smell!I have a squirrel problem?
Yeah, I would advise against poison for the previously stated reason, the smell is horrible, I found that out the hard way with rats lol

I've never used the Hav-a-heart traps, but they seem like they might work, if you could get the squirrels to go in them. You couldn't do it in the city, but I live out in the country and I have been known to shoot them off of the side of the brick part of the house with a .22 before they go in, works like a charm, every time :)
find the hole they are using to get into your attic.... about mid morning they should be out finding food... spray the hole with fox urine.... found in the hunting department of you sports stores.... they will leave for a day or two... cover the hole.... you can also place cotton balls in used pill bottles and spray the cotton with the fox urine... throw the bottles around your attic to chase them out... put you still have to cover the hole!
Stuff any holes that they may be using to enter the attic with tin foil.

It works great, it seems to bother their fillings.

    Squirrel problem?

i live in an area just outside of a city in a small apartment building. it's not hardcore concrete jungle, but space is tight. because the building is small, everybody has to take care of their own garbage - put it in the cans, take it to the curb, etc. my neighbors have been foreigners and college students who don't seem to take care of their garbage, and as a result we have a HUGE squirrel problem!

we just have the regular garbage cans that you would buy at any home store. they used to have lids, but over time they get lost - mine blew away in a wind storm. even when we had the lids, the squirrels chewed right through them! they chewed through the bottom of the cans when they got trapped. i've looked outside my window and seen a squirrel eating fried chicken and whole pieces of pizza. every day i hear them digging in the cans.

i know that they have learned they will get food here, but is there anything i can do to get rid of them? they are driving me nuts! (pardon the pun)Squirrel problem?
Go old school with metal garbage cans!

and encourage your neighbor to do the same, if your having a problem with the lids then go to your local hardware store and buy a small chain and chain down the lids

if your squirrels can chew through those then you have a bigger problem on your hands!Squirrel problem?
even if you drive em away the rats will come. whtcha gonn ado when they come for you?the squirrels are cuter and they dont litter. feed wild animals and polar bears. at least they will live so what if off the garbage
Not really, sorry. They are very good at adaption. Even if you could catch all the squirrels, more will come and take their place.

This might be a city rodent control issue, and they will enforce the garbage situation.

    Squirrel problem?

ive tried repellents and traps but they all fail. so is it ok to shoot them with a pellet or bb gun in the state of texas?Squirrel problem?
As far as shooting them you would have to check your local pest control laws,it might be considered illegal. What are they getting into?If they eat stuff than put something hot by that place squirells have taste buds and they dont like the hot stuff, try using something like cheyanne pepper or hot sauce.other than that put chicken wire around the area ...it just depends on the application as far to what they are doing.Squirrel problem?
Only when in season and only if you intend to eat them or keep the skins. Wasting wild game is illegal.

    I love squirrels.

    Miketyson26
Live trap them and take them to a new spot, I like them
Cheyanne pepper - go to the dollar store and get some - won't bother birds but rodents hate it - if they raid your bird feeder mix with the feed - soon the critter will be off to bother someone else

I have a garden in the backyard of my Townhouse. There's a park over the fence and I have squerrels that like to dig little holes in the dirt and in one case, looks like the ate a little bit of my young Cammillia plant. Is there any repellant I can use to keep them away?Squirrel Problem?
    You could use this link!!

    rather..the information within it!!Squirrel Problem?
Biowar, my friend. Get a loud dog to scare, a mean cat to eliminate. Cages and decoys don't work. I'm not aware of any scent based deterrent either.

Maybe human hair or ammonia, but ammonia would likely kill that plants, and that defeats the purpose.

If you have a friend with a chihuahua, borrow it. I don't know if it can catch the squirrels, but it would be funny to watch it try.
have you tried mothballs or graded orange or lemon peels and throw them around. The moth balls work well but do not put them on the planets. Hope this helps
Try moth balls on the ground around your flowers. The squirrels around here avoid them.
Look for fox urine. Most home and garden centers will carry it. I get it at our local Agway store.
a BB gun will work, other than that squirrels are very very hard to shoosh away

So, there's squirrels, and they're problems.?

So, my friend has, a new baby, 2 dogs, and an invasion of squirrels!!

She needs to know how to get rid of them, they go after the dogs, and the dogs bark and growl, which is not ok when the baby is awake, but really not ok when the baby is napping!!! ANY help at ALL will be appreciated!

    Thanks!So, there's squirrels, and they're problems.?
Set live traps. One by one take them and deposit them some where else far enough away that they don't come back, and no, you don't have to shoot them. Live traps will work. So, there's squirrels, and they're problems.?
Go to your local feed store, like RSC, and ask them for squirrel extraction methods. The feed store has different types of ways to get rid of them. Your friend needs to seal all the outside opening that are allowing the squirrels to reside with her. You can also set wire cage traps for them. We called our local animal shelter and they set out traps for the squirrels and cats.

Can you really burn water? My wife says i can. ive got more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highyway.

I suppose im not the best chef in the house...Can you really burn water? My wife says i can. ive got more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highyway.
Not exactly burn, but you can scorch water.

Not tap water mind you, but if you are melting snow or ice over a fire or on a stove top, you should do it slowly with lots of stirring or you will end up with funky tasting water.

DocCan you really burn water? My wife says i can. ive got more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highyway.
That was an excellent metaphore LMAO You can dry up water.

    'Pet' flying squirrel problem,?

We raised a litter of orphaned flying squirrels to maturity, let them outside, built nest boxes in a tree in the yard then and then every chance they got back in the house they came! The main trouble is that they sneaking inside and chewing everything up they find. Don,t tell me to ';close the doors and windows'; I already do that and it seems they have a pact with the devil to get inside again.'Pet' flying squirrel problem,?
they are not outdoor pets then

they have been raised as pets and are now tame i would say the best thing is

    1.put them in a cage

    2. put them in the shed and put food outside and slowley reduce the amount of food so they have to look for some themselves

    3. catch them and take them to a humane society

4.put nets/those hangy things over your doors and windows so you know you can get through but they can't

    I have a squirrel problem.?

Would a pug in the yard help to deter squirrels?I have a squirrel problem.?
No, a pug would attract squirrels. pugs and squirrels get along to good.I have a squirrel problem.?
It might but a Hav A Heart trap will do a better job and you can take them six miles away to ensure they do not come back or you could teach them to swim..........
put plugs in the yard and blow them up
The squirrel`s might gang up and hog tie the pug, perhaps some larger breed might work. Then you might have a problem with the neighbours if the dog eat the squirrel.
My shepherd keeps them at bay just fine!

You can try some inflatable owls available at nursery stores. The trick is to change their location daily, because those squirrels aren't that stupid ;-)
My neighborhood adjoins a wooded area and a family of squirrels was destroying everything in sight. I put a squirrel feeder atop a landscape timber in the far corner of my yard and filled it with black-oil sunflower seeds. In 2 years, not one squirrel has ventured into my yard. Squirrels are territorial, so this does not attract more squirrels; it merely feeds the ones that would otherwise be ransacking your yard. This is more humane and less expensive than shotguns, traps, dogs, cayenne pepper, squirrel repellents, and yelling at them whenever you see them. My neighbors still have squirrel problems; I don't.
no but some poisoning would =]
my dogs get laughed at from squirrels

I was told you can keep them out of bird feeders by sprinkling cayenne pepper in the seed where birds don't even notice but keeps squirrels away - sprinkle some in your yard lightly and it'll keep bugs down as well.

A cat may be a better deterant than a pug.

Does anybody know if there is a household product that I can use to keep Squirrels out of my rose garden? They are digging around my roses and I want to create a barrier so they wont go in there.Squirrel Problem?
The little monsters will find a way to get past just about any barrier you can devise!

Of course the best solution is to eliminate them all together. Try a Havahart trap and then be sure to take them at least 10 miles away or they will find their way back.

One of the only effective deterrents is a motion activated or random timed water sprinkler. You can find these by searching the internet for ';squirrel sprinkler';.

    Good Luck!Squirrel Problem?
A BB gun or a 22 works wonders.
try a rubber snake in garden or a plastic owl..
Try fencing it in and making accesibiltiy more difficult.
Put mothballs around your garden. Also lay some bubble gum around also. The squirrels will eat it and it will clog their digestive system. That's a bad idea if you have any pets in your yard.

Problems with flying squirrels in your house....?

a co-worker has a problem with flying squirrels in her house (in the attic)...she got a quote from a guy that says it starts at $700 just to get rid of them and for a 5 year warranty...so it could cost more than that...she's worried that its a scam cause it sounds like way too much to get rid of them but they are starting to cause lots of damage....anyone out there who has had a similar problem and how much did it cost you to get rid of them?Problems with flying squirrels in your house....?
She could catch them herself. Go to your local farm or sporting goods store %26amp; get a box trap. Put it up in the attic with peanut butter on the triger. When she gets one she should keep it in a cage until she has them all %26amp; relocate them. Flying squirrels stay in families like people.

I have problems with squirrels in my garden how can I deter them. My neigbour insists on feeding birds !!!?

The squirrels are a major concern as my greyhound tries to get them and will risk serious injury in the quest to catch them and still this does not deter them.I have problems with squirrels in my garden how can I deter them. My neigbour insists on feeding birds !!!?
Try calling your local council pest control dept. They can give you advice and if need be they can write to your neighbour advising them to stop feeding birds because of the problem. If they write they wont tell the neighbour who complained.I have problems with squirrels in my garden how can I deter them. My neigbour insists on feeding birds !!!?
I'm sorry to say that you will never win the war against the squirrel. My dad has been fighting them for as long as I can remember. You could by a BB gun to thin them out though. That's something my dad would never do.
There is probably not a lot you can do about your neighbour, but there is a way to put them off bird seed. Put out some seed yourself, but liberally lace it with chilli powder. Birds can't taste this, but mammals can.
Try sprinkling moth balls around. it has helped in our attic for squirrels and mice.
Maybe easier to train your dog not to chase the squrriels
If you can legally kill them by shooting, they do make tasty morsels, if you eat meat.

Skin, gut, and wash. Roll in a bit of breading and brown, then cover pan with a bit of water and steam. Much like dark meat chicken.

However, I would never eat a squirrel's nuts.
    BB Gun
Are they red or grey? If they are grey then maybe call your local council but if they are red leave them, feed them, do whatever you can to save them. They are an endangered species that are greatly threatened by the grey squirrel.
    cat.
Living in conjunction with squirrels will drive you batty. A cat will work, cats actually will kill a squirrel and eat it. Since we've started feeding the wild cats around us and they've been hanging around we haven't had the squirrels.
i read the other answers most ok,,, What I do is a weak spring bb gun daisy single pump (it won't kill them unless u MAYBE hit them in the eye)or bottle rockets whistling with report ,,,i use these methods for all pests and it works with all stingem and scarem away
My mother-in-law had the same problem, We got her an outdoor cat and that took care of the problem. the type of cat is important as some are natural hunters. She had the tortiseshell (female) cat and from what i found out, they are one of the better hunters naturally. In our case, my husband just shoots them, as we live in the country .
A cat will do better than a dog. A cat can climb trees just like a squirrel can. A dog cannot.
shotgun, you can legally exterminate GREY squirrels in the UK as they are classed as vermin.
I feel for you...i have had some major squirrel problems over the past few years (mostly because the neighbours insist on feeding them).

what worked best was a live trap - left it out for a week or so until they were not afraid of it...then put in bait and caught several over a week...so far so good.

    lots of luck!
Buy some well trained squirells and make them friends with your greyhound. One day they will all be friends. Three cheers
Sorry to hear about your problem but a Squirrel is wildlife and has a lawful right to live wherever it wants... I know this is no help to you what so ever, But would a fence be out of the question so the Greyhound does not do itself an injury when it next launches itself at the tree...
Go to a sporting store and pick up some red fox lure fox is a natural enemy of squirrels and the smell will scare them off. Be careful it stinks bad and you don't have to use much just a couple drops

Have you ever had a problems with squirrels being in your house?

I hate to even bring it up because it's ';that'; time of year again...%26amp; we haven't had any problems since we had siding put on a year ago (touch wood). Before that it happened All the Time - they used to come in the attic %26amp; gravitate to other areas of the house: basement, cubby-hole..I even had to chase one from under my dining room table! Last year, when I went into the attic to make repairs Yet Again...there were already baby squirrels in a nest so I had to take them outside %26amp; thankfully the Mommy squirrel came %26amp; got them...Why do they give you SO many characters to work with %26amp; why am I going On %26amp; On about squirrels...!? I think I need to go have some more coffee....Have you ever had a problems with squirrels being in your house?
Yes, have some more coffee. Thanks for the touch also.

I have come to hate the little buggers. They constantly are screwing around in my garage tearing crap up. I wish I was mean enough to go a hunting them, but I feel they would revolt and overwhelm me.

Im scared.Have you ever had a problems with squirrels being in your house?
awhh suriil are so dam cute like u
You can make wire ';gates'; one you find the point of entry, make a wire basket to cover it, like the cone in a lobster trap, they can go out, but not back in. Squirrels are pretty crafty though, you might have more than one point of entry.

    Good luck.
Yes I have. One winter I heard my cat carying on in the livingroom around 1:00 in the morning.I went out to see what was wrong and out of the back of my woodstove pops a flying squirrel.I ran and got heavy work gloves and chased the thing all over the house trying to catch the thing.By then everyone was awake. Finally I caught it.I thought it was so cute until I got it outside. The thing freeked out and jumped and clung to me .I screamed and it took off.See if I save another one from the cat.
No. Not with squirrels in the house but yes on the street. This happened with a man in 'Chipndale' some time back.........

    There was a man trying to cross the street. As he stepped off the curb a car came screaming around the corner and headed straight for him. The man walked faster, trying to hurry across the street, but the car changed lanes and was still coming at him. So the guy turned around to go back, but the car changed lanes again and was still coming at him. By now, the car was so close and the man got so scared that he just froze and stopped in the middle of the road. The car got real close, then swerved at the last possible moment and stopped next to the man. The driver rolled down the window. It was a squirrel. It said, ';Not as easy as it looks is it.';
Yes. Squirrels in our attic. My husband put wire screen across the vents they used to get in . It's kept them out so far. I used to listen to them scurrying back %26amp; forth up there, get a broom %26amp; hit the ceiling with it. Didn't do any good.
I had problems with squirrels in my attic. They chewed through wood vents as if they were flavored. I even tried a device that emits a sound to deter them - which they eventually chewed through the electric cord and disabled !

So far, so good this season.

    %26lt;fingers crossed%26gt;

Getting rid of squirrels from an attic (u.k.) roof problem.?

We plan to block their entrance but are unsure if we can as the roof is this kind with the waved edge

And where the tiles meet the guttering there is a grill where the tile curves and that is where they are getting in. This grill is on every edge tile all the way round the house and we are not sure what is the best and most cost effective way to block it.

Also can we block it or is it for ventilation?

My dog LOVES to chase birds and squirrels. i have no problem with that but....?

i feel really bad for him because it always gets away before my dog catches it. it always happens like this: my dog sees a bird in the backyard. i open the door quietly so it wont run away and my dog flies out in a dead sprint. but birds and squirrels have good hearing, so theyre gone to fast. i feel really bad for my dog and i want him to have some feeling of accomplishment for once. is there any way i can help him feel like he got one without have a dead animal in my house? My dog LOVES to chase birds and squirrels. i have no problem with that but....?
    The dogs enjoy the chase. I know you don't *really* want your dog to mutilate and mangle a squirrel or a bird. Just let him enjoy the chase and give him a treat when he comes back in and say ';good dog.';

Dogs aren't like people. They don't feel ';accomplishment.'; They do things out of instinct or because it is fun.My dog LOVES to chase birds and squirrels. i have no problem with that but....?
This is funny our pitbull did the same thing and i would feel bad for her so i went to petsmart (or walmart had them) and they had a squirrel and a racoon and i got a cheap fishing pole tied the string around the neck a few times and that way you can cast the toy out let him get it then when you notice they loosen up pull it away, reel it in, and cast it out again! MY DOG LOOOOOOOVES IT! and gets an accomplished feeling! GOOD LUCK!
if your feeding your dog enough. he's just exercising his natural hunting instinct. It doesn't really matter if he catches anything, he'll enjoy the exercise.
Aww i hate wen that happens!!

Buy a bird !!put it outside, but where it cant get away so your dog can catch it!

    Sorry i meant a toy

Do squirrels typically have eye problems, and what should I do about it.?

I have three pets squirrels, one a baby (about 6 weeks) , and the other a couple of years old......The baby has something wrong with its eyes, they are all crusty I dont know what I should do about it.Do squirrels typically have eye problems, and what should I do about it.?
take it to the vet to check it out wad happened to it....Do squirrels typically have eye problems, and what should I do about it.?
It would explain why so many of them line the suburban roads and driveways.

I have a problem... there are squirrels in my wall .... !?

I sleep in a finished / furnished attic. We have drywall, but practically no insulation. I live in PA where it can get quite cold. There is a hole at the top of the house leading into the space between the attics drywall and the bricks of the house. Well, now thats its winter, the squirrels climb into that hole to stay warm. It's very unsanitary, very inconvenient, and the squirrels make lots of noises that keep me awake at night. I want to put something up to block the whole in the outside of the house. However, I can tell there are quite a few squirrels in my wall and I don't want to trap one in my drywall.... I don't want to tear down my drywall. At the same time, I don't want them in my wall. I was thinking about getting rat poison. good idea ? I also heard there was something called a clicker ... i guess it makes loud noises or emits some frequency that acts like a pest remover... does anybody know anything about that ? does anybody have any suggestions ? thanks in advanceI have a problem... there are squirrels in my wall .... !?
No to poison, unless you want to smell dead rotting flesh in your walls for a long time.

Put some peanuts out on a regular basis so the squirrels get in the habit of going to look for them. While they are out seeking peanuts get someone to block up that hole. You might want to get in touch with pest control to do the job for you.I have a problem... there are squirrels in my wall .... !?
they hate noise, wait till dark than wrap a towell around a bat or broom handle keep hitting wall and make lots of noise till they all go out, in meantime have some chicken wire cut about couple inches bigger than the hole, and some nails and hammer ready. when they all leave seal it up

Birds and squirrels acting strange. What's the problem?

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that some of the birds and squirrels around my house have been behaving very strangely, almost as if they are drunk. One squirrel kept hopping up on the tree and then it would jump to the ground and keep flipping over on its back obsessively but then it would flip back over and continue to eat. Another squirrel climbed on to the top of my patio and just sat in one place for probably half hour. He looked dazed, in fact I thought he was dying but he later moved, but rather sluggishly. One bird sat and stretched out its wings on the patio roof and behaved just as strangely, then I found a dead bird in the backyard, probably the same bird. I have very large trees and lots of shrubbery and the trees have berries. Is it possible that the berries are doing something to these animals??? These trees have always been here, and we've never seen this happen before. Any explanations?Birds and squirrels acting strange. What's the problem?
Perhaps the squirrel has gotten into some fermented berries, this happens quite a lot. Also, if it gets into garbage with peaches or strawberries, these two fruits ferment quickly and it could be possible that he really is ';drunk'; on fermented fruitBirds and squirrels acting strange. What's the problem?
If the berries fall off the trees and lay on the ground long enough, the sugars can actually start to ferment and produce alcohol. I've heard of robins literally getting falling-over drunk by eating fermented berries, so YES, it's possible something they're eating is getting them sloshed.
maybe the birds and squirrels are happy or hype!!!!, maybe you should leave them alone
sounds like they have got into something fermented. when they do they act goofy and drunk like that.
Sounds like the squirrels would be fun 2 watch!!!

    Ask your local vet
There could be poison in the water supply. Pollution kills animals and people keep polluting. Animals die every day. There is no money in saving animals, people just keep building and polluting.
It's strange and beyond me. But I do hope they are not slightly poisoned by something in your neighbourhood. I heard animals can sense any coming slight change in the weather or climate. Could this be the reason? I just don't know.
    give them breathelizer tests.lol

    idk
hmm, what exactly are you feeding those animals?

  • Do you have a problem with squirrels in your church?

There were five houses of religion in a small Texas town:

The Presbyterian Church, the Baptist Church, the Methodist Church, the Catholic Church, and the Jewish Synagogue.

Each Church and Synagogue was overrun with pesky squirrels.

One day, The Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will..

In The BAPTIST CHURCH the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistry. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistry and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week

The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creations. So, they humanely trapped the Squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.

The Catholic Church came up with a most effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Easter.

Not much was heard about The Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called 'circumcision' and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

You might trying putting steel wool where he is chewing through. I know this works with mice. I would think it would work with squirrels, too. They don't like the steel wool in their mouth so they won't gnaw.

Try moth balls. I use those to keep the squirrels out of my flowerpots. They don't seem to like the smell. Put them in the foot of an old sock or pantyhose and hang them all around where the critters are congregating.

You might, ultimately, have to call a pest professional to get rid of them for good.
I watched a special on squirrels once and someone had the same problem, he tried everything! Then his wife brought home a small dog and they disappeared!
Squirrels are smart %26amp; sneaky. Before you have to resort to more drastic measures, try scattering mothballs or flakes in %26amp; around the areas they infest. They hate the smell. I use this method in the garden to keep squirrels %26amp; rabbits away from sensitive areas. Also try sprinkling HOT pepper around possible entrance points. Relatively cheap, safe, easy, %26amp; I hope sucessful. Good luck!
I build homes, and I had to return to one almost weekly to replace the vinyl siding where little reds were chewing through to gain entrance into the attic. After the third time, I finally stopped them by putting sheet metal behind the siding in that spot, but they still would chew through the siding till they hit the metal.

The homeowner was a nature loving FREAK, and she finally asked if there was any way to ';KILL the S.O.B.'s';. I set traps in the attic where they were frequenting, and while crawling around up there discovered they were starting a nest, which would mean more squirrels. I came and reset the 3 traps every day, and after about a week and a half, and a death toll of 11, there were no more squirrels around [except the much less destructive grey squirrels, which we left alone].

Nature freak lady has a new understanding when it comes to rodents and the damage they do. She went out and bought a few traps for herself, and asked me to teach her how to set them [these are not little wooden mouse traps, but steel body gripper killer traps], in case the critters come back in the future.

Only sure fire way is to eliminate ways to get up onto your roof/deck/awnings. This means cutting any trees down within 20 ft of the house, and no clothes lines, overhead power lines, etc. Easier to just humanely kill them.
if i were you, i would be super pissed off too. Call the council. Put some bait on the roof. Yeah call the council though, they might be able to point you in the right direction. You could have a lot of fun with a paintball gun?

    Are nesting squirrels a problem?

I have a large tree at the front of my house which comes very close to my roof and for the last few days there have been squirrels making a HUGE nest in it (on one of the branches that it quite close to the house). Should I call someone to try to relocate them, like the Humane Society or can I just leave them? I dont want to hurt them but I've heard that squirrels can be a real pain if they get in to your attic/loft. What are the chances of them trying to do this (if it starts to rain or soemthing for example)?

    Any suggestions?

    ThanksAre nesting squirrels a problem?
leave them. If something goes wrong the squirrels will just try again elsewhere. Are nesting squirrels a problem?
this is fine as long as you do not pester them a lot or else they will leave.

I have a problem with grey squirrels encroaching in to my flat. need a deterrent but dont want to kill them?
There are two ways that squirrels got in your flat...through the front door in which case dont leave it open. Squirrels are good jumpers and if your window faces a tree they will jump in and in which case...dont leave the window open. Using humane traps wont solve the problem because after they are released...they will come back looking for scraps of food.
Change the locks on the door
You can buy humane squirrel traps ,once you've caught them take them a mile or so away and release them, most pet shops will be able to get you one.
I am afraid ANF (above) has got it right. No time for sentiment, they need killing. They are no better than rats and of course they have almost decimated our native red squirrels. If you catch them and let them go elsewhere you are just passing on the problem to somebody else.
Grey squirrels are vermin and carry all kinds of diseases. They damage trees and other vegetation so kill them as quickly as you can. They are as verminous as rats. Kill them.

Ahhh the squirrels keep stealing the bait and dont set the trip plate off. And yea i put the bait far in back of the trap. Any ideas and how to stop this. Thanks.Squirrel trapping problems?
This works great! It'll catch every squirrel in the area.

I put the bait (usually a cracker smeared with peanut butter) UNDER the live trap, just beyond the tread plate, then I anchor the trap to the ground with a couple of tent peg's or long nails/spikes. Work's everytime..like clockwork!Squirrel trapping problems?
**** a trap get a gun and and shoot der head off dats wut i do
    Like John said...

Just this afternoon I caught the stinkin' tree rat that's been scurrying around in my attic and annoying the wife. Two little dabs of peanut butter on the trip plate and half a pecan stuck on each one.

Make sure the trap operates smoothly and set it so it's just on the verge of releasing.
    screw a trap buy a .22 rifle
Put some peanut butter on the trigger itself, so the squirrel will apply pressure directly to it.
I smear my bait on the trigger itself also
Shoot the squirrels instead, you'll save on bait. Or you could tie the bait into the trap so they have to work at it to get it off.

    Problem with Grey Squirrels?

We have a problem with grey squirrels coming in through the catflap to eat the catfood in the utility room. They only eat the dried food, not the wet varieties. Can anyone suggest a way to keep the squirrels out while still allowing our cats to go in and out as normal.Problem with Grey Squirrels?
    Well...you have 2 options.

You can either seal the cat door or get rid of the squirrels.

We had a problem with squirrels getting into our attic. We trapped them with a humane squirrel trap and then set them free in a park about 2 miles from our home. We used Jiff Peanut Butter as bait. It took a couple of months, but the squirrels that were getting into our attic were finally gone.

If you're interested in a humane trap, here's one:

    http://www.pestproducts.com/squirrel_tra鈥?/a>

You might set the trap outside but near the cat door, so the squirrels using the door find the trap easily.

Also, wear gloves when you release the squirrels.Problem with Grey Squirrels?
Grey Squirrels are rats with long tails and good PR

The problem is that they are so attractive to the eye.

I could not kill them but the idea of a trap is a good one but do not release them in an area where there are red squirrels unlike the greys they are native to UK and endangered f
Get a squirrel trap they ,work very well, then humanely kill them.In the UK it's an offence to release squirrels to a new location so if we trap them they have to be disposed of
Think the only thing you can do is stop leaving the cat food out.

Feed them when you will be there. That should stop the squirrels.

    Good Luck
Shoot them - they are classed as vermin - only way.

Any measure you put in place they will eventually get around....
Get one of those electronic cat flaps that work with a gadget on the cat's collar.

Either that or do what jamand suggests

He has been laying around not barking or jumping around as usual.Dog killed baby squirrel last Sat and hasn't eaten since Tues., but he is drinking. What could be problem?
Did he eat the squirrel? If so, some part of it may have caught in his digestive system. That needs to be fixed at a vets office or he could easily lose his life.

If he didn't eat the squirrel, it's possible he may have caught some kind of a disease from it. It's also possible that his ill health has nothing to do with the squirrel, and it's just a coincidence that he got sick right after killing the squirrel.

Anytime a dog doesn't eat, it's pretty serious. The one time, my dog quit eating, it turned out to be a bowel obstruction, and required emergency surgery. You really need to get your dog checked out at the vet. There's no way I could tell you from an email what could be wrong.

Hope this helps!Dog killed baby squirrel last Sat and hasn't eaten since Tues., but he is drinking. What could be problem?
same thing happened to my firends dog and she changed his food brande/type after 923832 other attempts and it worked.
He ate the rest of the happy little squirrel family and is full.
    he is full
he could have gotten squirrel poison.. He really needs to see the vet tomorrow. It could be disease, cocci, or parasites, but the timing would lead me to think 'poison' first.. the vet can give a remedy (blood clotting medication) for rodent poison.
My dogs used to eat squirrels all the time and never got sick however I had to treat them for tapeworms every 6 months for it.
im not sure but maybe something might has affected him and or messed up his sense of eating but i would definltly take him to a vetinarian hospital for animals!

    Squirrels problem?

can anyone tell me the best way to catch and dispose of squirrels? without hurting them.Squirrels problem?
Contact your local DNR to check on any permits needed to live-trap and release, or hire a Nuisance Wildlife Control Professional, who should have the appropriate permits.

Relocating may not be allowed at this time of the year, as it may end up separating mothers from their young, causing the babies to starve to death.Squirrels problem?
    use a wire trap
squirrels don't hurt anybody they are very friendly and they love to get a nut from you. they are so cute just leave them alone they are life just like everything else
yeah you can get a cage that is normally used to catch cats and put peanut butter or the raw corn on the cob in it and when the enter it the door closes on them! although I have seen some escape, but most can't get out.
Lay down mothballs around the area, squirrels and chipmunks hate the smell, and they will leave you alone!
Go to your local hardware store and see if they rent live traps. Put some bait inside and start catching squirrels. Personally I would shoot them if they are a problem. They taste like chicken.

    Squirrel problems help help?

i have chestnuts on my property and every year in the fall the squirrels eat all the nuts wat can i do to get rid of the squirrels (i dont mind killing them) or at least make them stop eating my chestnuts?

the chestnut trees are near huge ash trees and ive seen squirrels jump tree to tree wat can i do?Squirrel problems help help?
    You have a couple options.

You can cut down trees near the chestnut trees so that they can't jump into it and then surround the area with chicken wire to prevent them from accessing them that way, but that seems a little unpractical.

I've heard of people using rags soaked in vinegar and hanging them near the area they don't want trespassed. This is due to the claim that rodents despise the smell of the vinegar even when dry. This would require you to soak the rags once a week.

There are also commercial products available at Lowe's and other home improvement warehouses that are designed for this, however I can't personally attest for whether they work or not.

If you're wanting the chestnuts for your own consumption it's probably best you keep a good eye on them and make a daily effort to retrieve as many as possible before your furry friends beat you to it.

I wish you the best of luck, but please try to understand that you share a world with animals and they have to eat as well as you. Odds are that they have to work harder to get their food than you do, so give the little guys a break and try some of the things above. Good Luck!!Squirrel problems help help?
Cutting down near by trees is not going to deter any squirrels. Putting chicken wire will not deter them unless you completely cover the entire tree and leave absolutely no holes or cracks bigger than 1 inch. Sometimes a couple of large realistic looking styrofoam owls will deter them for a while, longer if you move them every day or so and mount them in the tree to look as life like as possible. The best way to get your nuts off the tree is to go and start picking them when you see the squirrels eating them.
You can put some bird netting over the trees if they are small enuf, squirrels won't go where their claws get stuck in nets.

OH MY GOD! They're out to get you, too!?!?!

When I was at school in South Carolina last year, I noticed the squirrels were looking at me funny. I soon realized they were plotting against me!

They would chuck nuts at me as I walked to class. Once I saw one eating a bone!

Then I moved back up to Ohio. The situation has only gotten worse. Now, they watch me EVERYWHERE! They have a base right outside my kitchen window. It is a hollow tree stump, they sit by it, watching me, and report to their compatriots in the base.

They are not so sneaky as they think. Once one was sitting on the brick wall outside my front window. It was digging at the brick like there were nuts inside, and checking in the window at me from time to time. Not sneaky, sir. I know you weren't there by chance! You can't bury nuts in brick walls!

    HELP!!??Chipmunk and Squirrel problems?
The metal cones work, I use them around my place all the time, however they have to be on a metal pole with the bottom of the cone at least five feet off the ground. It also is better if the bottom of the cone does not have any lip that they can hang on to, in case one of them figures out a way to climb the pole. Also no overhanging tree limbs and no tree limbs closer than ten feet. Squirrels are very good jumpers.Chipmunk and Squirrel problems?
Get or make a large metal cone to go around the pole withe wide part down. That should stop all but the most ingenuous ones. I have had squirrels grab the edge of the cone and flip themselves over it. I tried greasing the pole and one squirrel dug in the dirt to give his paws traction and climbed the greased pole. I then hung the feeder on a clothes line and one learned to flip upside down and walk the line upside down and hang by the back paws and eat. Good luck in outsmarting the critters!

A sure way is with a pellet gun.
BB gun. you don't even have to kill them. you just have to continually scare them. The whole point is to create negative feedback.
you will never get rid of them. but you can try putting crisco on the pole,it slows them down and sometimes they just give up,it has worked for me

I don't know if this is normal or not but both of it's arms seem to a be a little limp sometimes. Like, it would take 3 big leaps/steps but then it's arms will give way and then it falls on its chest/neck/chin.

While your sister may have seen the squirrel fall from the nest, it could very well have been pushed out by the mother because it's ill. It could have also broken some bones in the fall.

Do NOT give it any more milk! That's about the worst thing for it since it's not a cow. This is what can happen when baby squirrels are raised on cow's milk: http://www.squirrel-rehab.org/pictures/i鈥?/a>

Get it to a rehabber as soon as you can. You can find the closest one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.鈥?/a>

They'll know what is normal. If it is injured, it could be in a lot of pain, and the most humane thing may be to euthanize it. A licensed rehabilitator will know what's best for it. If you care about the animal, don't leave it potentially suffering.
If you are in the UK it is actually illegal to release a grey squirrel back into the wild (honestly, it's true) so you need to know what you intend to do with this squirrel if it does grow up. The RSPCA euthanizes grey squirrels for this reason. A UK vet would probably do the same. The only hope you have is to find a zoo that would take it, keep it yourself (you'd need a large aviary type enclosure) or release it without telling anyone as technically you would be breaking the law.
I would not try and rehabilitate this squirrel on your own. Care of wild animals is very tricky and should be done by a professional. Take it to a shelter and ask them what they can do for your squirrel.
You should take the squirrel to your local animal shelter so they can rehabilitate him and release him back. The fall may have injured him the sooner he gets treated the better.

    Squirrel problems?!?!?!? Help!?

Okay yesterday my grandfather cut down our tree. So today there was this squirrel that climbed our big window on top of the roof part of it the 3rd time it started to come down and the first and second time it climbed on the bottom edge. Me and my grandmother were joking that the squirrel is after my grandfather for cutting the tree down. What can we do to stop the squirrel. I don't want me or anyone to get rabies or bit.Squirrel problems?!?!?!? Help!?
The squirrel is probably disoriented because you removed its home. It will figure things out in a while and things will go back to normal. It will find a new home in another tree.Squirrel problems?!?!?!? Help!?
    Well, you can't do much.

    1) you can just wait and see if it stops

    2) if that doesn't work you can put left over food that you won't eat in a spot on the ground somewhere and if it eats there for a couple days it will go there instead

or 3) Call animal Control, but that is stupid and a waste of money so I wouldn't do that

I would do the 1st one first, and if it continues to do that for a whole week, then do the food thing. Hope this helps :)!
Toss some nuts on your lawn and when it scampers out to get them ---WHACK it with your spade.

Well then come back onto yahoo answers and ask ' how do i clean up squirrel paste from my lawn?'

I hope you don't get rabies. Wish you well.
put some seeds (sunflower seeds, they also eat bird seeds)out ina a bowl, and it will eat instead of climb your windows, then it will forget all about climbing your window

:) Hope it works *crossing my fingers* :)
Don't worry about the squirrel... Most likely it dosen't have rabies!!!

If your that worried, get a dog orhave a relative with a dog stay for while.
Buy a humane sqiurrel trap, then release the sqiurrel well away from your garden.
Have your grandfather move the squirrel is after his nuts!!!!
    don't worry about it!

Can you really burn water? My wife says i can. ive got more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highyway.

I suppose im not the best chef in the house...Can you really burn water? My wife says i can. ive got more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highyway.
    LoL... you should try cookingforengineers.com

...my husband is the cook... but I can, and when I was learning (mostly before I met him...) I used this site for just about everything I wanted to know. Can you really burn water? My wife says i can. ive got more problems than a squirrel on an eight lane highyway.
No, you can't burn water; I know, because if you could, I'd have managed it by now! I'm a good baker, but a LOUSY top-of-the-stove sort of cook :-)

And the visual of the poor befuddled squirrel... absolutely pricesless!!!!!!
    No you cannot burn water.
OMG...........ROFLMAO, thanks so much for the laugh and NO you can not burn water, so don't feel too bad
I used to know a woman who also claimed she was a bad cook and that she burned water. I think she just burned the pan real bad after the water had evaporated.
?! That is really bad... No you can't burn water. I love the squirellism.. That's great.
yes you can -when you put food on the stove you must watch it.--try this

go to the store and look for betty crocker home made dinners--all you need to do is to put them together and watch them -cook them then eat.

also get a crock pot-electric one -- in that you can put any meat, potatoes, corn and make dinner, you can make stews and other stuff in that. Tell your wife you are just trying and please give me time!
you can't burn water. she don't sound so brite

Have a problem with squirrels digging up flower bed. Need a repellent?

Boil 1 quart of water and remove it from heat as soon as it starts to boil, then add 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper and 1/2 teaspoon of tabasco sauce. Allow it to stand for 2-3 hours to make sure it is very cool. Spray the stems and base of plants. Will not harm the plant but will deter the pesky little rodents!!Have a problem with squirrels digging up flower bed. Need a repellent?

    DOG DOG or dog dog
    Pee in the flowerbeds.
Ruger 10/22 with hollow-points and a 4X scope will do nicely!
watch the lowes comercial... or just go there... do you have brown dirt lines all over your face?
We have the same problem and have tried everything. We even put wire mesh over the dirt and they just found a way under it.

Animal urine only worked for a few days. Commercial products worked for a few days.

Hope someone can give an answer that really works - I would try anything.
    A gun works the best.
Red Pepper works the best. Does not bother birds either but the squirrels hate it.......powder is the best.
You can use natural reppellants by planting garlic, thyme, and peppermint.
    rape them
Use Antifreeze, it will solve all of your rodent problems.

    While going for my daily run, I passed a squirrel carrying a nut in her mouth. When she saw me, she ran toward a safe place and, coming to a stone wall, easily jumping on to it and disappeared. I began to wonder how high I could jump if i were a squirrel.';

    ';If an average squirrel's back leg height from ground to hip is 3 1/2 inches, and the squirrel can jump a 2-foot-high wall, what height wall could I jump if I were a giant squirrel? My leg height from the ground to hip is 36 inches. Whats the answer in nearest feet and inches?';

What is the answer and how would you explain it? Math Forum Problem 1082: The Nutty Squirrel?
Convert 2 ft to inches. (24in)

    3.5/24 = 36/x

    Cross multiply

    3.5x = 864

    x = 246.86 in or 20.57 ft

I have a problem with squirrels getting on my 1st floor terrace. is there a way to prevent this?

A scatter gun or a cat will take care of them.I have a problem with squirrels getting on my 1st floor terrace. is there a way to prevent this?
It is almost impossible to keep squirrels from doing whatever they want. (Thank God they don't want to rule the world, huh?) The question I have is why are they on the terrace? Unless they just think it's a cool place to hang out, is there food or water or something else they're after? You could deny them any of these things if that's why they're there.

Otherwise, unless you're willing to completely screen in the terrace, I doubt there's much you can do.I have a problem with squirrels getting on my 1st floor terrace. is there a way to prevent this?
Couple of things - get a plastic owl and/or a plastic snake.

A packet of cat poop also works.

I have a problem with squirrels?

The problem is that I have a new hose and had planted bulbs and flowers and now the squirrels are digging them up, what can I do to deture them from diggin up my flowersI have a problem with squirrels?
Could be moles that are digging up your bulbs. Put down Grub x to kill the grubs the moles are eating %26amp; digging for.I have a problem with squirrels?
a 22 rifle works really well if your in the city limits and cant fire off a gun then use a pellett gun squirrels are great food
grrr, this is a problem that lots of people have! If you distract them with a feeder, you have to keep feeding them or they will go back to the garden, and it's never good to feed wild animals and make them dependant on humans!

One way the many have detered garden pests from dining on their bulbs is to build a cage or barrier of chicken wire for the bulbs. The squirells don't like the feel of the wire on their feet and the metal makes it hard for them to chew thru it.

you can make a slender box for the bulb of the wire and plant the whole box. The plants will still find a way to come up thru the wire...if you don't want to do a box, then lay a layer of chicken wire down on top of the dirt, making sure that the entire area is covers. Secure with earth staples (long pieces of bent wire you can push into the ground) then cover the whole space with a mulch.

    good luck!
distract them, in other words get some squirrel feeders and feed them. maybe you can keep both around like we do. yes we occasionally loose a bulb or 3 but hey they are funny to watch sometimes.
They can really make lots of damage.

If you do not have a pet and your neighbors do not have pets. You can put some cayanne pepper down. That will chase the squirrels away. But, it is very dangerous to the pet community.

    So be extremely careful.
If you can plant bulbs close to strong-smelling plants , such as sage , or other any mint family member ,or Matricaria (aka Feverfew , Leucanthemum parthenium ) they will leave the bulbs alone . Allium , or fritillaria bulbs, planted with the other bulbs will do the same thing . You could also plant the bulbs inside a wire cage .Chicken Wire, doubled up will work .
okay this really works and it works in my yard . go to a store where they sell lawn ornaments and buy a plastic owl and set it up in your yard . turn it every few days so that they will think an owl has invaded your property and they will leave . good luck and happy gardening .
I have fought this war for years with no success... until recently. I did some research and found out that the reason they chew ( the house, the arbor, the bird feeders... ) is their teeth grow at a faster rate on the theory that they will be grinding them down. So.. I have hung corn cobs and ordered about 20 lb. They eat them and it is somewhat entertaining as well. Don't put them out if there are racoons around.

As far as bulbs you can buy bulb wire cages to plant them in, usually in the fall. I believe http://www.gardeners.com has them at a good price.

As for pots, I have bought hardware cloth from the local store that is big enough to cover the top of the pot and tuck under the lip. If there isn't a lip, a good rock will work. If you have existing plants in them, you can cut a hole in the hardware cloth big enough for the plant(s). A crayon can be helpful in this case.

So far so good. They are going after the unprotected decoys...; )

You can also bait a live trap with sunflower seeds and relocate them to a worthy environmental area, but...others quickly move in ..

    Good Luck !!
I did a quick search and found lots of websites about this. Here are three.

I have a word problem about squirrels that I can not solve!?

Here it is: 3 squirrels gather a pile of nuts and decide to store the pile outside their house overnight. During the night, 1 of the squirrels wakes up hungry and decides to steal 1/3 of the pile but he has to eat one in order to be able to take exactly 1/3. He leaves 2/3 of the nuts behind and goes back to bed. Exactly the same thing happens to the 2nd squirrel, who wakes up, eats 1 of the nuts, steals exactly 1/3 of the pile that's left, and goes back to bed. Then precisely the same thing happens to the third squirrel. She eats 1 nut, hides away 1/3 of the remaining nuts, and goes back to bed. In the morning, the 3 squirrels awake and divvy up the pile which is not empty. It divides exactly into three.

What is the amount of nuts that was in the original pile?I have a word problem about squirrels that I can not solve!?
    The primary answer is 25. The general answer is 25 + 81i, for integer values of i (1, 2, 3, ...).

[Edit: James Chan's equation for b should be

    b = 2/3 {2/3 [2/3 (a - 1) - 1] - 1}

For b=6, you get a=25, but for b=12, a is not an integer.

    End edit]

This is a Diophantine problem (google Diophantine), a simple variation of the famous ';coconut problem'; (google that too) involving seven shipwrecked sailors. Doing three squirrels is easier than seven sailors. Anyway, Diophantus was an ancient Greek who worked on problems requiring integer solutions.

A long time ago I solved the coconut problem by myself, although I had to do some research to discover the technique. I've forgotten what I did, but we'll try it again on the squirrel problem.

Let n be the original number of nuts. After the first squirrel left, the pile contains

    2/3 (n-1) = 2/3 n - 2/3

After the second squirrel leaves, the pile contains

    2/3 (2/3 n - 2/3 - 1) = (2/3)^2 n - (2/3)^2 - 2/3

After the third squirrel leaves, the pile contains

    2/3 [(2/3)^2 n - (2/3)^2 - 2/3 - 1]

    = (2/3)^3 n - (2/3)^3 - (2/3)^2 - 2/3

    = (2/3)^3 n - [(2/3)^3 + (2/3)^2 + 2/3]

Now, in the last expression, the part inside the brackets is a geometric series. When n=7 (the coconut problem), you need to use the formula for the sum of a series, but here, we can just use the common denominator of 3^3 = 27.

The last expression can be rewritten as

    8/27 n - 1/27 (8 + 12 + 18) = 8/27 n - 38/27

Okay so far. This last expression, 8/27 n - 38/27, is the number of nuts left in the morning, and it is a number exactly divisible by 3, so we can write

    8/27 n - 38/27 = 3m

where both m and n are integers. Multiplying both sides by 27, we have

    8n - 38 = 81m

    8n - 81m = 38

The tricky part is to get two integers, m and n, that satisfy the above equation. From here on, I'm not so sure of myself. 8n is an even number, and 38 is an even number, so m must be even. Let m = 2k, so

    8n - 162k = 38

    4n - 81k = 19

Here, 4n is even and 19 is odd, so k must be odd. Let k = 2j+1. Then

    4n - 81(2j+1) = 19

    4n - 162j - 81 = 19

    4n - 162j = 100

    2n - 81j = 50

2n and 50 are both even, so j must be even. Let j = 2i. Then

    2n - 162i = 50

    n - 81i = 25

    n = 81i + 25

The smallest number that satisfies this is i=0. In that case, n=25. (Primary answer.) Other values for n include 81+25 = 106, 106 + 81 = 187, etc.I have a word problem about squirrels that I can not solve!?
I suspect there is more than one answer, but assuming the smallest number that would work...

I would start at the end and work backward. the ending pile has to be a multiple of 3, and since it was 2/3 of the previous set, it also has to be a multiple of 2...
according to the question, the final number of nuts is divisible by 3 and also 3/2 (it is 2/3 of the previous number is the question) , so it must be the multiple of 6 , for example 6,12,18.....

we have theses, let a be the initial number of nuts

    a - 1 is divisible by 3

    2/3(a - 1) - 1 is divisible by 3

    2/3[2/3(a - 1) - 1] is divisible by 3

    2/3 { 2/3 [ 2/3 (a - 1 ) - 1 ] }is divisible by 3

    b = 2 / 3 { 2/3 [2/3 (a - 1) -1} is a multiple of 6, so with each multiple of six, we will find an ';a'; , that is the result :

for example with b = 6, we have a = 25, plug a into the statements above, we have the result is 25 nuts

    Squirrel Problems?

Squirrels are eating our strawberry patch - any suggestions about how to get them to stop??Squirrel Problems?
Oh those little boogers! They are very hard to get them to leave once they have tasted your yummy morsels.

You can put a small cage of chicken wire over the top. push down slightly to the ground because they will try to go under neath. You can put a few long stakes weaved through the mesh into the soil. Other things you can do..

anything smelly....chive tops, onion heads, crushed mint (tea bags work) stinky shoes, dryer sheets ( not pretty but works very well)

and whirley-gigs, anything that moves alot.

Depending on how large your strawberry patch it you can also put liter bottles over them or bird mesh.

There are also mt.lion scent and other

predator scent you can get at any sporting good store, however with them you have a smell!

    You can put decoy predator

around...owls...snakes....I have even used stuffed animals.

Nothing is 100% except to eradicate them .I myself just put up with them. I also have a squirrel feeder farther away so they are not quite so hungry all the time!

    Good luck and God Bless!

Things I've heard from my gardening friends:

    - put foil along the fence where the travel

    - hang shiny things around the patch (old CD's)

    - fake owl

    - put chicken wire over your patch

    Good luck!

Squirrels have to be one of the most persistent and intelligent eaters on the planet. I really hate to post this, but a instead of a scare crow, you have to put a sacrificial squirrel. Once they see one of their own dead at the hands of their desire they will never come back. You may also want to contact an organic gardener or PETA as both will give viable suggestions. Good Luck!
invite some chinamen over. they will be more than happy to catch em skewer them and roast them.

  • Why do liberals have no problem killing unborn baby's but cry there eyes out when a squirrel dies?

Liberalism...a genetic disorder, for most. Why do liberals have no problem killing unborn baby's but cry there eyes out when a squirrel dies?
Yes. Let's talk about a similar issue.

How is it that conservatives insist that those babies come out of the womb, and then immediately stop caring for them, and often actively wanting to cut off their main source of food and income or make the single parent have no time to be with their children because they're working 16 hours a day, or they want to kill them, because they came from a disadvantaged background, didn't have the tools to make good decisions, and then commit a crim that you guys deem as only being rectified by death.

So basically, once their out of the womb, your policies indicate that you care nothing about them unless they happen to be yours, someone's that you know, or pink and white. Why do liberals have no problem killing unborn baby's but cry there eyes out when a squirrel dies?
you are not expecting any intelligent answers to such a childish question, right?
    We love squirrels, like you.
do conservatives hold funerals for children who are miscarried?

    I wonder?
What you said is more profound than you realize. Human life is expendable and only here to do employed slave labor for the retirement accounts. Squirrels well if they showed the truth we'd think they were inhumane, mastakistic.. and I happen to think liberals are the most out of touch humans with a directive from Satan.
Because Vasectomies need to be free.
Because, unborn babies are under several layers of skin.
Killing an unborn baby's what? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you weren't picked as class valedictorian.
Only liberals have abortions????? Interesting train of thought.
The idea that a fetus is a human being is a religious belief--not an established fact.

And it's not even a true Christian belief. The Bible says nothing one way or the other. And the Christian tradition until the mid 19th century was that the sul did not enter a fetus until the end of the first trimester (';quickening';).
    oh god...your grammar...

in answer to your question- squirrels are way cuter.
they dont care about life...not unless your a murderer or rapist on death row..THEN youll get their love and sympathy.
It is because liberals are psychologically flawed. They do not see things from a proper moral perspective. That is why a higher percentage of liberals believe that killing the unborn is fine. They do not believe in being responsible for their actions. It is the easy way out.
I believe you meant they cry for the murderer who disemboweled the pregnant mother...they hate to see murderers killed humanely.

I could have a potential problem with a squirrel entering my house through a window screen?

I live in a 10 year old house. Only my bedroom and bathroom windows on the second floor are ever open during the day and night in the summer. This winter I have noticed a squirrel (don't know if it's the same one) sitting on those 2 window ledges. We do not have air conditioning and can't afford it. A squirrel got in my mother's house several years ago and made a real mess. I don't want that here. These 2 windows are on the second floor, so the creature must jump down from the roof. What can I do so the squirrel won't rip the screening and I can still keep the windows open. Any ideas?I could have a potential problem with a squirrel entering my house through a window screen?
If the squirrel has not entered the house don't worry about it. If it becomes a problem you can use rat wire...screen with 1/4'; holes from any hardware store. PS look for signs of chewing on wood trim.I could have a potential problem with a squirrel entering my house through a window screen?
The squirrel will not tear through the screen of an occupied home.

They have been known to get inside of empty and abandoned homes with no activity to scare them away.

This squirrel already has a home in the trees around your home. Stop worrying.
Sounds like you got some serious squirrel issues. I would take that up with a psychiatrist bud.

    Problem with a squirrel help!?

there is a family of squrriels in my attic(which happens to be my bed room) I just recently moved back home after 4 years, and their are two large closets in the attic, lots of boxes have piled up in them. I have used poison to try and rid of them, but that didnt seem to help. It is hard for me to get into these closets because of all the junk, and i am worried that if i keep the door open they will run out.

    A) Will a pest control/or wild life agency come and remove the squrriels even with all the junk in there

    B) Any Other Ways of going about it if that doesnt work

    C) If i get bit by a squirrel that has eaten poison and does not die, will i gain cool powers like spiderman?

on a side note the two closets are almost like alley ways in my attic/bedroom and it reaches the end of the house so they are coming in from the outside most likelyProblem with a squirrel help!?
you need to get pest control . they dont care about how much stuff you have. and they need to find how they are getting in and block it. no to the spiderman thing. best you can get from a squirriel bite is rabies.Problem with a squirrel help!?
I dont think you should use POISON especially is there are other pets including children in the home. you should try to contact animal welfare and tell them you fear the squirrel he may have a rodent disease but in no way should you harm him. Where are you located contact PETA they will probably have someone local that could help you remove him without harming himself or you. They will also have homemade type remedies and traps that will help you get him humanely

    Squirrel cage motor problem solving!!?

Can you help me out with this?

A 22KW, three phase, 440v squirrel cage motor operates at full load with efficiency of 0.90, a power factor of 0.90 and slip of 0.02. Calculate the torque, speed, speed and current drawn by this motor at full load. If number of poles is six (6) and power supply frequency6 is 60 Hz.

I need it for my take home exam. Thank You!Squirrel cage motor problem solving!!?
22kW motor power rating is output power not input!

    Sync RPM = 120f/p = 1200 RPM (p=poles)

    Slip = Sync RPM X slip = 1200 X .02 = 24 RPM

FL RPM = Sync RPM - slip = 1176 RPM

    Input kW = Output kW/eff = 22/.9 = 24.44 kW

    Input kW = V x I x sqrt3 x pf / 1000

    Input current I = Input kWx1000 / (Vxsqrt3xpf) = 35.6A

    Output kW = Torque X RPM / 9549

    Torque = 22 X 9549 / 1176 = 178.6 N-m

    Squirrel cage motor problem solving!!?
Calculate the synchronous speed Syn = F/P f= frequency p = pole pairs

    Syn = 60/3 = 20 Hz convert to RPM = 20 x 60 = 1200 RPM

    Motor speed = Syn - slip = 100% - 2% = 98 % of Syn = 1200 x 0.98 = 1176 Rpm

    Motor power = max power x efficiency = 22kW x 0.9 = 19.8kW or 19800W

    Torque = Power/speed in Rad/sec

There is a constant to change RPM to rad/sec = 0.1047 which is 2pi/60

    Speed = RPM x 2pi/60 Rad/sec = 1176 x (6.28/60) = 123.48 Rad/sec

    Torque = Power/Speed = 19800/123.48 = 160.35 NM

    Power = Sqroot 3 x VL x IL x PF

    19800 = 1.7321 x 440 x IL x 0.9 rearrange for IL

    IL = 19800/(1.7321 x 440 x 0.9) = 19800/685.9 = 28.87 Amps per phase

what do you mean by mange??? but other than that we had a wild squirrel and we feed her peanuts, squirrel and hamster food and other treats you can get at the feed store. IF it is old enough to be away from its mother then it should be find with the food but if it is still really young then you need to give it milk and other minerals and suppliments to help it grow and everything...Is there anything I can put into squirrel food to help with a mange problem.?
try a little olive oil mixed in, generally good for skin and coat
I did peanuts for a squirrel but I also didn't do it for mange just try doing it with peanuts and see what happens.
Is this a pet squirrel? I had a dog with mange, and the vet gave us ointment to put on the skin. If you are able to hold the squirrel, and apply it, it might work. A wild squirrel might try to bite you!
    little olive oil mixed in
Who has the mange? You or them? lol How do you know it is the mange?

The only way is to quit feeding them !!!! Seriously, maybe the food you are feeding them is not right for their digestive tract. Not right for squirrels in general....You may be hurting them more than feeding them.......

My mom has a problem with squirrels eating her tomato plants that she has right behind her deck.?

Is there anything you can put out or put on the ground or in the soil that will keep animals away but not hurt the plants? She doesn't have anything she can use to enclose the tomatoes and keep them totally isolated from rabbits, etc.My mom has a problem with squirrels eating her tomato plants that she has right behind her deck.?
Well, the green parts of the tomato plant are poisonous. She should have started the plants out of the garden until they got large enough that when a squirrel ate some, it would realize it was harmful and either leave the plants alone or die.My mom has a problem with squirrels eating her tomato plants that she has right behind her deck.?

Okay, first person to tell me the correct answer wins. If a squirrel was running at 50 MPH from Naples, Florida to Christchurch, New Zealand and took a 2 min. break every 30 min., how long would it take the squirrel to reach New Zealand? Explain your answer please.Thanks. Lovez ~ SammiSquirrel math problem. Help!?

    Squirrel math problem?

There is a squirrel. He buries acorns 9 inches apart along a 3-foot long line, then turns 90掳 and buries acorns in a straight line for another 3 feet, and continues in this manner until he has completed a perfect square. Each side of the square is three feet long. how many acorns Square Sam buries to complete his square? please help asap!!!Squirrel math problem?
In total, the squirrel walks 12 feet. 9 inches into 12 feet goes 16, so 16 acorns were buried. (We do not need to worry about end-points as the path is a cycle)Squirrel math problem?
I had to look at your question. I didn't know what squirrel math was.

    Draw a square ABCD.

At A put a dot, If AB = 36 inches long, there are 4 intervals of 9' each at which points acorns are put, but you have a starting point and a finishing one, therefore there are 5 such points. On BC there are 5 also, except we're already counted the one at B so you only get 4 new ones. Same for CD. Now at DA you get 5 again but D was already counted, and A was already counted, so you finally end up with 5 + 4 + 4 + 3 =16.
    16.

4 corners plus 3 in between on each side

    4 + 12 = 16
Let's consider a line. He buries one at 0, 9, 18, 27, and 36 inches in the line. That's five acorns. There are four sides...so, that's twenty acorns.

But wait! We double-counted the corners...because acorn 0 of one line is acorn 36 of the other. So, there are actually 16 acorns buried.
roll up deep into this steeze, that's what it sez. ace!
Since 3 feet = 36 inches, and the acorns are 9 inches apart, there are 5 acorns at each side (4 spaces, each 9 inches); note that I counted corner acorns twice.

The following figure shows the solution: ( * = acorns, - = empty space)

    * * * * *

    * - - - *

    * - - - *

    * - - - *

    * * * * *

    There are 5 + 3 + 3 + 5 = 16 acorns.
    OK

    Key is to see that 3 feet = 36 in. and 36 in/9 = 4.

So in the first side he buries 5 acorns, then he buries 4 then 4 more and the last side he buries 3.

So the total he buries? 16.

Draw it for yourself and you will see!

    Hope this helps.

(EE problem solving) motor problem solving on squirrel cage?

A 22KW, three phase, 440v squirrel cage motor operates at full load with efficiency of 0.90, a power factor of 0.90 and slip of 0.02. Calculate the torque, speed, speed and current drawn by this motor at full load. If number of poles is six (6) and power supply frequency is 60 Hz. (EE problem solving) motor problem solving on squirrel cage?
I realize this is a homework problem, but it sounds like you need some help setting up the formulas...

First, note that the rated mechanical output power, Pout = 22 kW.

The AC windings are rated 440V line-to-line.

Since you are given efficiency and power factor, we can calculate the electrical input power, and thus input current.

Input real power, Pin = Pout * (1/efficiency), in kW

Input apparent power, S = Pin * (1/power factor), in kVA

Given S and V, it is easy to calculate current, I

    S = sqrt(3) * V * I , in kVA where V is the line-line rms voltage

    I = S / (sqrt(3) * V)

Next, to calculate motor speed at full load:

Identify the synchronous speed of the system, which corresponds to slip = 0.

    synch speed = 60 Hz * (60 rpm / Hz) * (2/number of poles)

So, a 2-pole machine would have a synchronous speed of 3600 rpm.

But, our 6-pole machine has a synch speed of 1200 rpm.

At synchronous speed, an induction machine (either squirrel cage or wound rotor) cannot produce any torque, and thus it cannot produce any output power. There must be non-zero slip to induce current flow in the rotor, which then results in torque %26amp; power production.

    Rated speed, s = synch speed * (1 - rated slip).

    So, s = 1200 rpm * (1 - 0.02) = 1200 rpm * 0.98 = 1176 rpm.

Now that we have speed, it is possible to calculate torque.

The equation is: Pout = T * w, where w 'omega' is the speed in radians per second.

So, we have to convert rpm to rad/s.

    w = rpm * (1/60 ) * 2pi = 123.15 rad/s

    T = 22000 Watts / 123.15 rad/s = 178.64 N-m
