Squirrels problem, want to catch or shot them?

Ok, what legal way to kill squirrels, I cant poison them right? What about traps that kill instantly? And when I was buying fishing license I did see hunting license for squeals, do I need to purchase it in order to kill them on my property? Thank you.

P.S. I鈥檓 sure people who think its cruel to kill pest like squirrels would think otherwise when they have to pay hundreds of dollars for damages that where cased by pests. Squirrels problem, want to catch or shot them?
Most states require a small game license for shooting squirrels but if you live in a rural area have at it, more than likely no one will turn you in for shooting pests. A .22lr rifle or .410 shotgun are preferred for squirrel if you want to save the meat, but any shotgun will work if you use a shot size of 6 or 7. If you don't care to eat them then any shotgun and any shot size is fine, but don't use any rifle larger than a .22

If you live in a village or city, there's probably an ordinance against discharging a firearm. You can try an air rifle, they're .177 caliber and some have as much power as a rimfire .177, without the noise. Some areas also have ordinances against air rifles, so in that case your best best is to call an exterminator.Squirrels problem, want to catch or shot them?
I would suggest shooting rather than poisoning or trapping. The other methods are bound to kill other animals besides squirrels including the neighbors cat! I think you would be ok shooting them on your property, but you will most likely be in violation of some ordinance using anything other that a pellet rifle. Check with local authorities to verify before you begin.
This probably won't help you, but we have oak trees all the way around our property that are infested with squirrels. There's a fence all the way around our place, and we let our 3 big dogs patrol for squirrels. Haven't seen a squirrel on our lawn in the 3+ years that we've lived here.

A 22 long rifle is the preferred caliber for squirrels, although 22 shorts will work just fine. It depends if you live in area where it is legal to discharge a firearm.

If so happy hunting, the hind legs taste great.
If they are damaging your home, I would suggest putting out moth balls, it works!

Squirrels can become a nuisance and can cause damage.

Moth balls will deter them away.
